A native of Minneapolis, MN, he moved to Los Angeles at 16 and quickly found a crew of like-minded beat makers and rappers who formed the LA underground collective known as Global Phlowtations. As one of the main pillars of the 9 man (and one woman) crew, he was responsible for producing, rhyming on, and recording many of the songs that became part of the 3 proper albums released by the group in the late '90's. Recording as Adlib at the time, he also released 8 solo projects during the same period.

Over the course of his 20 year stay in LA, he released numerous solo projects through various labels, collaborated with fellow producer/emcee Subtitle (aka Giovanni Marks) under the group name 'Labwaste', and began touring with Saul Williams as his one man band, armed with various electronic gadgetry.

Eventually his love of music and technology lead him to Ableton Live, which he became a certified trainer of in 2009. From there, he began running free electronic music workshops in downtown LA that were open to people of all ages, and soon helped develop course curriculum for an electronic music school called Dubspot. Through his many online tutorials, he quickly became one of the most recognizable faces and voices worldwide for Ableton Live education.

In 2016, Thavius left the cozy confines of LA and moved to Brooklyn, NY.  He is currently an Assistant Professor at Berklee, and is available for private instruction in NYC or online worldwide.
